SC Anime Club

Review of the Santa Catalina Branch Anime Club by Coleman S., teen reviewer

A while ago, I started watching anime and thought, “Man, it would be great if I could share this with someone.” Well, fast forward about five years and I met Deborah Takahashi, a Branch Librarian for the Pasadena Public Library. Immediately, we both started talking about anime. She said to me, “Why don’t you pop by our anime club?”, and I said that I would. On the last Tuesday of that month, I dropped by the Santa Catalina Library branch, and joined Deborah, Asbed, Paloulian to watch anime on Crunchyroll. We voted on what we wanted to watch on the projector. Soon, more people flooded in, and we all automatically clicked. Around 5:30 pm everyone went home, the chairs were packed up, the projector was turned off and the door shut. I walked out of that room thinking, “I didn’t know that there was anyone within 5 miles of me that like anime as much as I do.” And then the next month, the chairs were set out, the projector was turned on, the people filtered in and the cycle began all over again. The experience was amazing, and only one thing that would make it better: making it happen more often. If I had to give it a rating, it would be 9/10.

Anime Club by Julia Franchini, Grade 7

The Santa Catalina Anime Club is a way for teens to have fun and to get together. The anime club meets on the last Tuesday of each month and we watch anime for almost two hours straight. The club has a premium membership on Crunchyroll, so we get to watch premium shows which aren’t available for the free subscription. After attending the anime club, I have made some new friends. Together we have watched a lot of cool anime such as Trigun, Durarara, Fruits Basket, Soul Eater, The Devil’s A Part Timer, Blue Exorcist, Himouto! Omaru-Chan, R.O.D, and so much more!  It’s a really fun experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Join us for Anime Club at Santa Catalina Branch Library on the 4th Tuesday of the month. Call the Santa Catalina Branch at (626) 744-7272 to confirm.

You can also watch anime at the Pasadena Central Library on Saturdays. Check our website for dates: http://pasadenapubliclibrary.net/teens/events_and_programs
