For three weeks in June, a group of extremely smart and motivated teen girls came to Pasadena Public Library to teach kids between the ages of 10 and 14 how to do graphic design using free websites like Pixlr and using art media like pens, pencils, markers, scissors and more. Here is a video about the third week, where they created packaging for a product and charms for themselves. In other classes, participants did things like create and upload a font that they could use. The teens teaching the class had beautiful powerpoint presentations about the terms and concepts of graphic design, and creative hands-on activities like games to help reinforce what was taught.
Here are some photos and a video from the third week:
We were very lucky to be offered a chance to host this class, and we know our patrons were lucky, too! For more info about Project Designation you can find them at http://projectdesignation.tumblr.com/ and for more about Pasadena Public Library’s free programs visit http://pasadenapubliclibrary.net.
