The Teen Advisory Board has a new logo, designed by TAB member Julia See. The team previously voted on several different designs, but this one–with the obvious nod to books and art–attracted the most votes. Meep then took Julia’s drawn design and created a vector file. The team voted on colors and styles. Selecting the colors was an easy choice; they decided on royal blue and white, the same colors as the current volunteer lanyards. Given the option of two styles, they decided on traditional t-shirts and baseball tees. They discussed where the logos (library logo and TAB logo) should be placed–whether they should be on the back or front, and the size of the logo images. Sizes for each member were collected, shirts were screened by Ellen’s Silkscreening, and here they are!

Agenda:

Summer Reading Challenge 2016 – demo of new online site Reading by Design

Prizes – TAB voted on smaller prizes for program milestones and several grand prizes

SRC Teen starter set – box (like a small game box), headphones (“Try an audiobook while you jog”), button (made by teen volunteers), and “game instructions” (draft designed by Maya)

Graphics & theme – iREAD:  “Read for the Win” (sports, competition, games); TAB voted on graphics, badges, buttons

Programs – the team decided on:

  • laser tag
  • Ingress virtual reality game
  • At least 1 game night
  • There will be 3 summer YA Book Club meetings. Books were selected months ago. This summer Madison and Hadley will step in as facilitators while Kara is away. During this summer’s meetings, we will also collect nominations from book club members for next season’s meetings.
  • Welcome to Night Vale Listening Parties, which started out as a monthly program, will be scaled back to a quarterly event starting this summer; however, more effort will be placed into making each party grander.
  • Hunger Games style end of summer party; this will be based on the tabletop game Forbidden Island

Still to do for SRC:

  • Make hundreds of buttons
  • Assemble teen starter sets
  • Discuss rules for laser tag
  • Plan life-sized Forbidden Island
  • Make decor for Forbidden Island
