How to Survive a Freestyle Rap Battle

a poem by Sofia Priego (teen)

Rapping is something that can come naturally.

Or it’s something you just enjoy doing happily.

It’s an outlet to express yourself and all your emotions,

when you have feelings locked

up inside going through the motions

But when you know how to free-

style; that’s quite a sight

because you have learned how to

rap with your heart and your might.

And when you have found someone

to test your skills with,

your words become a free-style rap battle,

not a fight.

So, it is hard to explain the ways

you can “survive”

because as long as you say what you

mean, you are alive.
