“The Secret”

by Aaron Young

Grade 3

Summary:  Zach finds out something interesting about his father.

There was a kid named Zach who had a dad named Cody Bellinger. They lived in a fancy house in Oregon. Zach wanted to be a baseball player when he grew up. One day they traveled to Los Angeles and went to a Dodgers game. Zach and his mother were seated in the stands near home plate watching the game. Halfway through the game a player caught a home run. An excited fan screamed, “It’s Cody Bellinger, the MVP of the last season!” Suddenly Zach recognized his father on the field as the player who caught the home run. OMG! Zach could not believe it. That was his dad!

At the end of the game when they returned home, he said to his dad, “Why didn’t you tell me that you are a famous baseball player and the MVP for the division?”

His dad smiled and said, “Because I didn’t want you to brag about me at school.”

“Well I wouldn’t,” said Zach. “But I’m so proud that you’re my dad”!

Then his dad hugged him and tucked him into bed.
