We had forty participants at our Kickoff program to our Summer Reading Challenge! Families came to our Studio On 4th to dance, make musical instruments and rock out!
Here’s a video of some of the highlights of the program:
We had a Wii set up for dancing:
We made some awesome guitars out of cardboard boxes, cardboard tubes and rubber bands. We just taped the tubes to the boxes and cut a hole in the boxes for the sound to resonate. Not too difficult, and the result is pretty cool:
We also made drums by stretching cut balloons over large cardboard tubes. You have to stretch the balloons really tight; this one was harder! Good thing we had the help of some great teen volunteers:
We made drumsticks out of chopsticks and foam balls:
And we made some more craft stick harmonicas:
We even got silly!
We had kids and adults of all ages and had a great time all around. Hope to see you in the library for more summer reading fun!
