We read books about rabbits and other animals that hop during our second Infant Storytime of the spring session.  There was a also a bit of singing, bouncing and rhyming ~ I even snuck in a new bounce!  Here are the books, activities, bounces and nursery rhymes we shared:

Little White Rabbit is a beautifully illustrated picture book by Kevin Henkes.  It’s all about a little white bunny who explores and wonders what it would be like to be like some of the things he encounters:  green like the grass, tall as a fir tree, perfectly still like a rock and able to flutter and fly like a butterfly.  Little ones will fall in the love with the colors and clean, clear lines of each image while learning a bit about the “nature” of things in nature.  Bunny’s imagination also encourages baby to play and pretend…what would it be like if…???

Mama Look by Patricia J. Murphy and David Diaz is also an exploration into the various creatures we find in nature.  I don’t think there are many children who haven’t asked:  “Mama Look!” or “Papa Look!”  Just talking with your baby about the world around you creates so many opportunities for bonding and supporting language development.  Each page of this book leads to a new animal or insect..grasshoppers, ants, butterflies, frogs, puppies, squirrels, and more!  At the very end though it’s the baby bee who notices the human baby on Mama’s back!

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
How I wonder what you are
Up above the world so high
Like a diamond in the sky
Twinkle Twinkle little star
How I wonder what you are.

Dickery Dickery Dare (bounce)

Video:  Dickery Dickery Dare

Dickery dickery dare,
The pig flew up in the air –
Wooooo!
The man in brown,
Brought him back down,
Dickery dickery dare!

The Grand Old Duke of York (bounce)

Video:  The Grand Old Duke of York

Oh, the grand old Duke of York,
He had ten thousand men;
He marched them up to the top of the hill
And he marched them down again.
When they were up, they were up,
And when they were down, they were down,
And when they were only halfway up,
They were neither up nor down.

NEW!  Peas Porridge Hot!
