It was all about the bubbles in toddler storytime – bathtime & bubbles that is!

We read stories about a wild ride in a big red, bathtub and about a bath before bedtime with some calisthenics afterward????  Just goes to show that bath time in storybooks is rarely predictable!

OUR STORIES:
Julia Jarman’s Big Red Tub was a BIG hit!

So many animals want to join Stella and Stan in the tub!  A dog, a giraffe, a turtle and even a lion jump in, creating bubbles and splatters everywhere!  Then a hippo makes an attempt to sneak in and things go awry!  The floor is wet and slippery and the hippo never makes it in; instead he bangs into the tub pushing it out of the house and into the sky where it spins twice around the earth before landing back home again.  Then the children hear another knock on the bathroom door…who could it be???  The final visitor-MOM!  Bright, colorful illustrations, rhyming text and an unexpected, clever jaunt around the earth provide a little something for everyone.

What usually happens before bedtime?  A bath! In The Going to Bed Book,  Sandra Boynton makes her animal characters come alive as we see them standing on the deck of a boat right before bedtime.  The bedtime ritual begins with all of them racing down below to take a bath in “one big tub”.  We see them hang up their towels on the wall, find their pajamas, brush their teeth and go up to the deck when the moon rises.   What they do on the deck seems a little strange before bedtime (I’ll keep that part a secret), but it lends an element of humor to the story.  Of course they eventually say good night, turn off the lights and “rock, and rock and rock to sleep.”
