Outer Space – Preschool Storytime

Today we had an out of this world storytime as we explored outer space together!

Books We Shared

We learned all about what astronauts do in I Want to Be an Astronaut by Byron Barton.  As one storytime kid noticed even when eating dinner, astronauts are upside down.  Later in storytime we followed the adventures of a group of adventurous sheep who stumble upon an spaceship — and take off in Sheep Blast Off by Nancy Shaw, illustrated by Margot Apple.  Fortunately for all involved, there may still be a stowaway on board…

Flannelboard Story

In a musical mix-up for today’s flannelboard story we sang about Five Little Aliens to the tune of Five Little Ducks.

5LittleAliensFlannelboard
(to tune of: “Five Little Ducks”)

5 little aliens went out to play
Over the moon across the milky way
Mama/Papa Alien cried “Hep, hep, hep”
But only 4 little aliens came floating back.

…continue with 4, 3, 2, 1…

No little aliens went out to play
over the moon across the milky way
Mama and Papa alien cried, “Hep, hep, hep”
and ALL the little aliens came floating back.

Waiting quietly without a sound (say softly and put finger to lips)
Light this fuse on my little toe (wiggle little toe, or point finger at toe).

Jennifer Driscoll

Jennifer D. is a Senior Librarian of Youth Services . When she was young, she was once grounded for reading too much. Things haven’t changed much since then and she loves escaping into a good story. When she’s not reading she enjoys watching old musicals, scouring flea markets, taking way too many photos and letterpressing. If she could have any pet she wanted she would have a wombat or a manatee.
