At 10am on Saturday, April 6th, The Office of the Young Child, in partnership with the Human Services Commission’s Early Childhood Ad Hoc Committee, hosted a variety of fun-filled activities for kids and their caregivers at Jefferson Branch Library. The spectacular commencement to this year’s ‘Week of the Young Child’ extravaganza went off without a hitch, and families were able to take part in a variety of games, crafts, and informational services designed to highlight the quality of early childhood programs in our community.
Jefferson staff specifically chose projects and activities for the event that allowed children to explore their five senses. Participants posed for photos holding their ‘sensory jars’ crafted from clear tubes, water, glitter, and colorful pom poms. Kids also had the opportunity to indulge their green thumbs in the ‘Pizza Garden’ where they planted basil, sweet red peppers, oregano, and many more delicious toppings.
