Babies LOVE to look at baby faces! According to research, infants pay attention to human faces longer than anything else.  This applies to baby faces in picture books (even if they aren’t actual photographs).

Soooooo…I decided to inundate my storytime babies with cute little baby faces!  Who can resist?  I know I can’t!  First I read Baby Parade by Rebecca O’Connell.  Simple, yet interactive text, vibrant illustrations, and a built-in lesson on colors makes this a great picture book for babies and very young toddlers!  Next, ten tiny babies by Karen Katz.  She weaves stunning visuals and counting into this fun romp about what babies do best – play, eat, wriggle and splash in the tub!

For the toddlers (18-36 months), I chose Baby Loves by Michael Lawrence.  Slightly longer, the book talks about what toddlers love more than anything in the world… (of course what they love more than anything changes from page to page).  When we get to the end of the book we find out who Mommy and Daddy love more than anything in the world – BABY!  I followed this up with Babies by Ros Asquith and Sam Williams.  In this gently illustrated book we find out about all different types of babies – happy babies, cross babies, babies who like teddy bearseven bossy babies.

For the finale , I showed the VIDEO:  Spot Goes to the Farm.  In this video Spot searches for new babies among the farm animals.
