This week in infant storytime our theme was shapes.


Books We Shared

Our first story was Baby Party by Rebecca O’Connell, illustrated by Susie Poole.  It’s a party!  Time for babies to get together and have fun with lots of different shapes.  A fun book to clap with.

Circles by Yusuke Yonezu, our second book, is all about that special round shape.  Fun cutouts show just what different color circles can be.

You can also do this nursery rhyme as a bounce with your little one.  Start with your child on one leg – when Jack jumps lift your little one in the air and land them on your other leg.

Ride a Little Pony Bounce
Ride a little pony (bounce baby gently on knees)
going to town.
Better watch out or you might
fall down! (gentle guide baby through your legs to floor)

Patty Cake
Patty cake, patty cake, baker’s man (clap hands together)
Bake me a cake as fast as you can (clap hands together)
Roll it (roll one hand over the other)
And pat it (pat legs)
And mark it with a “B” (make the letter B on baby’s tummy)
And put it in the oven for Baby and me! (hands flat, then point to baby, then you.)

Round and Round the Garden Tickle
Round and round the garden (gently circle round baby’s belly button with finger)
Goes the teddy bear.
A one step (move your fingers and tickle baby up the belly)
A two step (move your fingers and tickle baby up the belly)
A tickly under there (tickle baby under chin)

Storytime’s Over
Hands up high! (Put your hands in air)
Now give a big sigh (sigh and bring hands down)
Our storytime’s over
So wave bye-bye (wave)
