Tuesday, December 15th was our last storytime for the Fall Session.  In anticipation of the holidays, we did stories and songs about toys.  First everybody got a shaker egg and we sang our opening song “Clap Everybody and Say Hello.”  We did the song Open Shut Them and read the book Mimi and Bear in the Snow by Janee Trasler.  It’s a simple, sweet book about a little bunny named Mimi who is looking for the bear she lost while playing in the snow.

We sang a song about toys:

Fire truck, fire truck, roll on the ground (touch ground)

Princess, princess, come get crowned (touch head)

Airplane, airplane, take off and fly (make airplane arms out to sides)

Baby doll, baby doll, start to cry (rub eyes)

Rattle, rattle, make some noise (shake or wiggle)

Oh how much I love my toys! (give yourself a hug)

(adapted from a song in the book Artsy Toddler Storytimes by Carol Garnett Hopkins.)

We made a pattern with our truck felt pieces,

and sang a simple song to reinforce the repetition of the color words:

Red little, blue little, yellow little truck

Red little, blue little, yellow little truck

Red little, blue little, yellow little truck

Now we’ve made a pattern!

Yellow little, blue little, red little truck

Yellow little, blue little, red little truck

Yellow little, blue little, red little truck

Now we’ve done it backwards!

We sang a song about a dolly:

My dolly can dance all around, all around, all around

My dolly can dance all around, here at storytime

My dolly can dance on her toes, on her toes, on her toes…

My dolly can dance side to side…

My dolly can dance up and down…

My dolly can dance sitting on the ground…

(from the book Artsy Toddler Storytimes by Carol Garnett Hopkins.)

We sang Shake My Sillies Out by Raffi and shook our shaker eggs.  Then we read a new board book by Leslie Patricelli, one of my favorite authors for infants and toddlers.  It’s called Play Nice, Hercules! and it’s about a toddler who smashes his sister’s block tower and then repents what he did.

We sang a song about Santa’s sleigh, to the tune of “The Wheels on the Bus”:

The reindeer on the sleigh go clop, clop, clop…

The bells on the sleigh go ring, ring ring…

The blades on the sleigh go whoosh, whoosh, whoosh…

The toys on the sleigh go up and down…

The Santa on the sleigh says Ho, Ho, Ho…

Our video for the day was Knuffle Bunny, based on the book by Mo Willems.  You can check out the DVD too from the Pasadena library.

I loved doing storytime with you and your adorable toddlers.  I want to remind everyone that our next registration day will be Tuesday, January 5, 2016.  If you’re a Pasadena resident (make sure your ID or a piece of mail can prove that) you are encouraged to come early on the 5th so that you can get in line to take advantage of Priority Registration from 9-11.  Open Registration starts at 11 am and phone registration starts at noon.  The first day of the session will be the following Tuesday.

Have a wonderful holiday season everyone!
