Sorry I couldn’t get this up on the blog til today. Yesterday’s Toddler Storytime was all about Naptime! We talked about the letter N:
First we read Grump by Janet S. Wong and illustrated by John Wallace. It’s a story about the normal grumpiness that sometimes builds up after a long day of cleaning messes, feeding, playing with and caring for a small child… But a nap can really help to make all the grumpiness go away!
Later we read When My Baby Dreams by Adele Enersen — Remember how babies and toddlers like looking at photographs of babies? This is a book of the photos the author created with her baby whenever her baby napped. Yes–every day the author created a cute photo picture using her sleeping baby… When most of us would be washing dishes or taking a shower! Oh well. Don’t feel bad. We can’t all be insanely productive on four hours of sleep. 🙂
We sang the song “Ten in the Bed” with a felt board. It goes like this:
There were ten in the bed, and the little one said
“Roll over! Roll over!”
So they all rolled over, and one fell out!
There were nine in the bed…. etc. until there is only the “little one” who says, “Goodnight!”
We learned a new song about going to the moon, just to keep to the nighttime theme, but also the “dream” theme:
Zoom, zoom, zoom, we’re going to the moon
Zoom, zoom, zoom, we’re going to the moon
If you want to take a trip, climb aboard my rocketship!
Zoom, zoom, zoom, we’re going to the moon
You can also sing this one to the tune of “Bumpin’ up and down in my little red wagon”:
Bumpin’ up and down in my little space shuttle
Bumpin’ up and down in my little space shuttle
Bumpin’ up and down in my little space shuttle
Won’t you go to the moon with me?
My space suit’s on and my boots are ready
My space suit’s on and my boots are ready
My space suit’s on and my boots are ready
Won’t you go to the moon with me?
We step on the moon and we bounce up high
We step on the moon and we bounce up high
We step on the moon and we bounce up high
‘Cause it has really low gravity!
There was another new song we learned about birdies in a nest (another word that starts with “N”!):
Way up in the sky the little birds fly
Way down in the nest the little birds rest
With a wing on the left and a wing on the right
The little birds sleep all through the night
Shhhh—THEY’RE SLEEPING!
The bright sun comes out, the dew falls away
“Good morning! Good morning!” the little birds say
Finally, we finished off with a great video that had everybody laughing! We watched Ricky Gervais sing a very silly bedtime song to Elmo that completely failed to coax him to sleep. You can check this DVD out: It’s called Singing With the Stars and we have it at Central Library.
I hope that all of you and your little birds had a great time yesterday and look forward to seeing you next week!
