We read bedtime stories, revisited the nursery rhyme, This Little Piggy, sang a traditional lullaby with a modern twist, played a bedtime version of Peekaboo, AND hit the hay!  (Hopefully nobody actually fell asleep during the storytimes).

Infant Storytime:  All babies LOVE Peekaboo games.  Peekaboo Bedtime by Rachel Isadora shows baby playing peekaboo with mommy, daddy, grandma, grandpa, cat, dog, slippers, duck and more until FINALLY baby sees YOU!  Bright, beautiful illustrations and simple text make this the perfect book for infants.

A lullaby in book format with a modern twist!  Hush Little Alien by Daniel Kirk has papa alien singing his version of Hush Little Baby to his baby alien.  Bold illustrations and space-themed lyrics make this a fun take on a classic.  The infants were mesmerized by the lilting tune and  the picture book’s bright, colorful imagery.  A big hit during infant storytime.  After the lullaby, it seemed like a good idea to pull out Denise Fleming’s picture book,  Sleepy, Oh So Sleepy.  The illustrations are softer, showing all kinds of baby animals that are sleepy, oh so sleepy…

The toddlers got their rendition of Hush Little Alien followed by another twist on a classic – This Little Piggy by Tim Harrington.  Of course the littlie piggies in this book are on baby’s feet and they do more than eat roast beef and stay home…they dig dancing, fly planes, have costume parties, chew gum…the list goes on and on.  With all that activity it’s no wonder they get tired out and really want a good night’s sleep.  We also read Cynthia Rylant’s Brownie and Pearl Hit the Hay.  Best friends Brownie and Pearl (the kitty) show us what they do to get ready for bed – they take a bath, put on jammies, have a little snack (chocolate chip cookies), read a bedtime story and finally curl up in bed and fall asleep.  A great book for toddlers, the children were fascinated with the familiar ritual of bedtime and the colorful illustrations.  Besides who can resist Brownie and Pearl’s unique bond – every toddler wants a kitty for a special friend…don’t they?

We ended with the very popular DVD – Good Night Maisy (complete with Maisy’s bedtime ritual, which includes a shout out to toddlers who are potty training.)

Here are a few more bedtime stories to add to the list!
