Our summer session of Infant Storytime is underway. Each week you’ll find a blog post that covers the books, rhymes, songs, tickle, bounces, flannel stories, fingerplays and puppets we shared. I also throw in some information about the benefits of reading, singing and talking to your baby!
For our sixth storytime of the session we celebrated Mouse’s birthday! We even baked a birthday cake!
Below you’ll find a record of everything we shared!
Fun FACT: The nursery rhyme, Pat-a-Cake, Pat-a-Cake, was first published in 1698 but the author remains unknown. Just think, 321 years later and we recited it during storytime today!
BOOKS WE SHARED
In The Fairytale Cake written by Jonathan Langley and illustrated by Mark Sperring we see a group of beloved nursery rhyme and fairy tale characters baking and delivering a very special cake for a little boy’s birthday! This picture book is wonderful for so many reasons, not the least of which is the wonderful 3-layer cake! At the end of the story, children get to join the little boy in closing their eyes and making a wish before he blows out the candles.
Little Gorilla by Ruth Bornstein is a sweet tale about a little gorilla who is loved by everyone in the forest. Yet, he fears that he won’t be as loveable as he grows into a HUGE gorilla. However, on his next birthday he is proven wrong as all the forest animals come to his birthday party to show him how loved and special he is (regardless of his size).

And when they were only halfway up,
They were neither up nor down.
