We had lots of fun reading about farm animals in Tuesday’s toddler storytime! We even followed a day in the life of a chick! Let’s just say it was an “eye-opening” journey. What follows are the stories, flannel board, action rhymes, songs, activities and video we shared.
BOOKS WE SHARED
In Chick by Ed Vere, we meet “Chick” – a baby chick who hatches out of an egg right in front of our eyes. Chick does the usual things baby chicks do – he cheeps, he looks for his momma, he eats and he poops. Whoops! Did I say poops! Well yes, yes I did! At the end of the story Chick sleeps right under his momma’s wing. A great pop-up book that tells you all you need to know about baby chickens!
Nancy Tafuri always writes wonderful picture books for infants and toddlers. Spots Feathers and Curly Tails is no exception. This is a great guessing book which introduces baby to all kinds of farm animals and animal sounds. Clear, bright illustrations and simple text make this a perfect book to read to your little one.
FLANNEL BOARD WE SHARED
This Little Cow
This little cow eats grass,
This little cow eats hay,
This little cow drinks water
This little cow runs away.
And this little cow does nothing
But chew his cud ALL DAY!
We made five farm animals appear by singing Old Macdonald Had a Farm to our magic box! It was quite the magic trick!
Old MACDONALD had a farm
E-I-E-I-O
And on his farm he had a cow
E-I-E-I-O
With a moo moo here
And a moo moo there
Here a moo, there a moo
Everywhere a moo moo
Old MacDonald had a farm
E-I-E-I-O
Old MACDONALD had a farm
E-I-E-I-O
And on his farm he had a pig
E-I-E-I-O
With a oink oink here
And a oink oink there
Here a oink, there a oink
Everywhere a oink oink
Old MacDonald had a farm
