Our theme for the SIXTH storytime of the spring session was Dinosaurs!  We read all about the different dinosaurs that existed millions of years ago and we read about a dinosaur who spent all of his time winning UNTIL he is confronted with BEDTIME!

What follows are the books, action rhymes, flannel boards, stories, songs and video we shared.

Meet Teddy the T-Rex!  He joined us for storytime!

BOOKS WE SHARED

Dinosaur vs. Bedtime by Bob Shea is all about a Dinosaur who winS a lot!  He seems to roar his way through just about anyone or anything he encounters UNTIL he meets up with BEDTIME!  A really funny book about a baby dinosaur who roars through life.

Byron Barton’s colorful book, Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs is great for toddlers.  Not only does it tell you about the different dinosaurs that existed millions of years ago, it offers opportunities to talk about colors and shapes.  Definitely a great introduction into these prehistoric creatures.

FLANNEL BOARDS WE SHARED

Dinosaur, Dinosaur!

We had to find our baby dinosaur so we looked behind each door.  We finally found her behind the “BLUE” door but not before we met up with a lot of other creatures!

Our rhyme:

Dinosaur, dinosaur, are you behind the RED door?  Let me hear you ROAR!  Oink, Oink…NO!  It’s a pig!

Dinosaur, dinosaur, are you behind the PURPLE  door?  Let me hear you ROAR!  Ribbet, ribbet…NO!  It’s a frog!

Dinosaur, dinosaur, are you behind the ORANGE door?  Let me hear you ROAR!  ROAR!!!  Well that’s a ROAR but it’s not a dinosaur!  It’s a tiger!

Dinosaur, dinosaur, are you behind the GREY door?  Let me hear you ROAR!  Cheep, cheep…NO!  It’s a bird!

Dinosaur, dinosaur, are you behind the BLUE door?  Let me hear you ROAR!  ROAR!!!  YES!  It’s our dinosaur!

Five Enormous Dinosaurs!

Five enormous dinosaurs shouting out a roar
One ran away; then there were four!

Four enormous dinosaurs, as happy as could be
‘Til the wind blew by; then there were three!

Three enormous dinosaurs were taken to the zoo
‘Til one got away; then there were two!

Two enormous dinosaurs were having such fun
‘Til a Volcano blew up!  Then there was one!

One enormous dinosaur, he must have weighed a ton
‘Til the lakes dried up; then there were NONE!

Now we’re here let’s have some fun!
First we clap our hands just so,
Then we bend and touch our toes.
Welcome, welcome everyone,
Now we’re here let’s have some fun

Open Shut Them – Video:  Open Shut Them

Open, shut them, open, shut them, (open and close hands)
Give a little clap, clap, clap.  (clap three times)
Open shut them, open shut them (open and close hands)
Put them in your lap, lap, lap. (place hands in lap and bounce them 3X)

Creep them, crawl them, creep them crawl them, (crawl fingers up arms)
Right up to your chinny  chin chin. (place fingers on chin)
Open up your little mouth (open mouth and say ahhhhhh)
But do not put them in!! (put hands behind your back)

This is Big, Big Big – Video:  This is Big

This is big big big
Hold arms out to side

This is small small small
Cup hands together

This is short short short
Hold hands with palms facing each other

This is tall tall tall
Reach one hand above head

This is fast fast fast
Circle fists quickly

This is slow slow slow
Circle fists slowly

This is yes yes yes
Nod

This is no no no
Shake head
