We began our first Infant Storytime of the summer session with a MOOO and a BAAA as we read books about farm animals.  Here are the stories, songs, bounces, flannel rhymes & activities we shared.

Books We Shared

Down on the farm there are many colorful and noisy animals to spy and we see most of them in Edward Gibb’s picture book, I Spy on the Farm.  A peep hole with a glimpse into a farm animal along with a teeny, tiny clue helps us guess which animal will appear on the next page! This book is boldly illustrated with simple text and delights with the element of surprise.  It makes a great read aloud or lap read and can easily be shortened to fit an infant’s attention span.

Charlie Chick is one of the few popup books we have in our collection.  It’s premise is simple – Charlie the chick loves to eat and we see what that does for his tummy, beak and feet!  But of course, if Charlie is big, his mommy is even bigger!  A fun, interactive read that appeals to infants and toddlers with it’s three-dimensional moving parts and it’s big pull out surprise at the end.

Flannel Boards

This Little Cow

This little cow eats grass
This little cow eats hay
This little cow drinks water
This little cow runs away
And this little cow does nothing
But chew his cud all day!

This Little Piggy Goes to Market
(Song:  This Little Piggy Goes to Market ~ Wee Sing for Baby CD)

This little pig goes to market
This little pig stays home
This little pig has roast beef
This little pig has none
This little pig cries wee, wee, wee, wee…
All the way home!

Rhymes & Bounces & Songs We Shared

We sing a lot of songs during storytime!  You’ll find lyrics to those songs without music here.

Welcome Song
(to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)

Welcome, welcome everyone
Now we’re here, let’s have some fun!
First we clap our hands just so
Then we bend and touch our toes
Welcome, welcome everyone
Now we’re here, let’s have some fun!

Dickery Dickery Dare (bounce)
(to the tune of Hickory Dickory Dock)

Click here for video:  Dickery Dickery Dare

Dickery dickery dare,
The pig flew up in the air, (woo!)
The man in brown, brought him back down,
Dickery dickery dare!

Grand Old Duke of York (bounce)

Click here for video:  Grand Old Duke of York

The grand old Duke of York
He had 10,000 men
He marched them up to the top of the hill (lift baby up)
And he marched them back again (place baby on lap)
And when they’re up, they’re up  (lift baby up)
And when they’re down, they’re down (place baby on lap)
But when they’re only half way up (bring baby halfway up)
They’re neither up nor down! (lift baby up and down)

You are My Sunshine (song)

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You’ll never know dear, how much I love you
And I love you more every day…

Music from CDs We Shared

Children love to sing and dance to music.  Here are some of the songs/bounces on CD that we used in storytime.

No matter what the weather.

Jump everybody and say hello, (lift baby up high)
