For our final Toddler Storytime of the Winter Session we explored crocodiles!  I hope everyone enjoyed this session as much as I did!  Here are some of the books & activities we shared:


OUR FIRST BOOK:

clarabella's teeth

Clarabella the crocodile has SO MANY TEETH that it takes her all day to brush them!  Meanwhile her friends are out playing, eating lunch and just having a good old time.  When Clarabella is finally finished and is ready to join her friends, THEY ARE BRUSHING THEIR TEETH to get ready for bed.  Poor Clarabella…  Not to worry thought, Ruby the Rabbit comes up with a clever idea to solve the problem – a crocodile-sized toothbrush.  An Vrombout does a wonderful job using whimsy and good humor to teach kids a bit about crocodiles and the importance of brushing their teeth.

OUR SECOND BOOK:

eat bugs

In I Love to Eat Bugs, our wide-mouthed frog loves to eat bugs – no secret there!  He comes across different animals, among them an elephant and a lion, who explain what they like to eat.  Our frog eventually runs into a hungry crocodile who…”LOVES to eat wide-mouthed frogs…”  Oh no!  You’ll have to read the story to find out what happens.  This is a beautiful pop-up book created by John Strejan – perfect for children of any preschool age.


TRANSITION ACTIVITIES:

 Open Shut Them

Open shut them, open shut them (hands open and close)

Give a little clap clap clap (hands clap)

Open shut them, open shut them (hands open and close)

Place them in your lap, lap, lap. (place hands in lap)

Creep them crawl them, creep them crawl them (crawl fingers up both arms)

Right up to your chinny, chin, chin (tap fingers onto chin)

Open up your little mouth BUT (keep tapping and open mouth)

DO NOT LET THEM IN!!! (quickly place both hands behind back)
