We read stories about babies at storytime and babies & doggies – what could be more fun????
Here are some of the books, songs, rhymes & activities we explored:
OUR OPENING SONGS:
Welcome, Welcome
Welcome, welcome everyone,
Now we’re here, let’s have some fun
First we clap our hands just so,
Then we bend and touch our toes
Welcome, welcome, everyone
Now we’re here, let’s have some fun!
Clap Everybody and Say Hello!
Clap everybody and say hello,
Clap everybody and say hello,
Clap everybody and say hello,
No matter what the weather…

Tiny little babies love bouncin’ yeah!

Now hug that baby nice and tight!
Tiny little babies love bouncin’ bouncin’
Tiny little babies love bouncin’, yeah!
The Grand Old Duke of York
The grand old Duke of York,
He had 10,000 men,
He marched them up to the top of the hill, (hold baby up in the air)
And he marched them down again! (bring baby down to lap)
And when they’re up, they’re up, (hold baby high again)
And when they’re down, they’re down, (bring baby back down to lap)
And when they’re only halfway up, (hold baby halfway up from lap)
They’re neither up (bring baby up)
Nor down! (bring baby back down to lap)
OUR BOOKS:
Leo Loves Babytime, by Anna McQuinn, follows Leo as his mom gets him ready for Baby Time at the library. Mom feeds him a good breakfast, puts on his jacket and places him in the stroller to take him to BABY TIME at the library. This is a great book to introduce your baby to some of the activities s/he will experience at a library storytime. The illustrations are bright and vivid – sure to appeal to an infant – and the text is simple and straightforward. It’s actually a perfect read aloud for an Infant Storytime or a one-on-one lapsit read at home.
The Babies and Doggies Book by John & Molly is perfect for infants. Babies love to look at other baby faces and, of course, tend to LOVE sweet little puppies. This board book has BOTH! Great photography, simple rhyming text and beautiful baby faces that represent a broad range of ethnicities makes this a good choice for storytime or home.

OUR NURSERY RHYME FLANNEL:
Hush Little Baby
Unfortunately I had a brain freeze when it came to the words of this lullaby. There are multiple versions that I’ve memorized but this one seemed to slip my mind (and right in the middle of storytime). Thankfully my storytime attendees were forgiving. I’ve listed the words to this classic lullaby below:
Hush little baby, don’t say a word
Papa’s gonna buy you a mockingbird.
And if that mockingbird don’t sing,
Papa’s gonna buy you a diamond ring,
And if that diamond ring turns brass
Papa’s gonna buy you a looking glass,
And if that looking glass gets broke,
Papa’s gonna buy you a billy goat.
And if that billy goat won’t pull,
Papa’s gonna buy you a cart and bull
And if that cart and bull falls over,
Papa’s gonna buy you a dog named Rover,
And if that dog named Rover won’t bark
Papa’s gonna buy you a horse and cart
And if that horse and cart fall down,
You’ll still be the sweetest little baby in town.
OUR TICKLE:
These are baby’s fingers, (touch child’s fingers)
These are baby’s toes, (touch child’s toes)
This is baby’s belly button, (touch child’s tummy)
Round and round it goes! (gently tickle child’s tummy)
OUR CLOSING SONGS:
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
(Refer to video clip for lyrics.)
Itsy Bitsy Spider
The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout,
Down came the rain and washed the spider out!
Out came the sun that dried up all the rain
And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again!
Mr. Moon from the Toddlers on Parade CD by Carol Hammett & Elaine Bueffel
Mr. Moon, Mr. Moon, you’re out too son
The sun is still in the sky…
So go back to your bed and cover up your head
And wait ’til the day goes by….
Goodbye Babies (in sign) – to the tune of “Goodnight Ladies”
Goodbye babies, goodbye babies, goodbye babies, it’s time to say goodbye….
