Lucha Libros Kickoff

We had lots of fun at our Lucha Libros Information Night yesterday! Kids made masks, wore capes, and took lucha libre photos. Then they lined up to get their official lucha libre name (usually something very silly making very little syntactical sense in Spanish–but fun anyway!) and got their copies of Bunnicula by Deborah and James Howe. Many people requested the Spanish version, Bonicula. I’m placing more copies on hold so that I can have some for Lucha Libros participants held at our Children’s Desk. Currently we have copies of the book in English there, so if you are just signing up now, stop on by!

Also, a clarification: there is still time to sign up for this year-long program! Last night’s event was really a kick-off night to get people signing up. Call 626-744-4725 if you have a 2nd or 3rd grader who is interested!

AnnMarie Kolakowski

I'm a youth services librarian currently working at the Lamanda Park Branch Library while Central Library is closed for seismic repairs. I purchase juvenile fiction for grades 2-8, and some foreign languages. I do a lot of programs with school-age kids, including 3 regular book clubs (Windows and Mirrors, Read Around the World, and Lucha Libros), as well as writing workshops and STEAM/science programs. I also Infant/Toddler Storytimes and Preschool Storytimes, and outreach to local area preschools. I love what I do, working with kids of all ages to inspire them to learn and use their curiosity and imaginations. Outside of my work at the library, I am also the author of a book on creative writing activities for kids.
