In lieu of today’s planned eStorytime, we had a regular storytime with books and music in a frogs theme. (Our network for the iPads was down.)

First we read The Big Wide-Mouthed Frog by Ana Martín Larrañaga. Wide-mouthed frog goes around bragging about how big his mouth is and what he eats, until he discovers a crocodile has been listening! The story is very smartly told with fun pictures.

Next we acted out Five Little Speckled Frogs. We wore froggy hats and each took a turn jumping from the step into the “pool” we placed on the ground using our imaginations.

(I couldn’t find a picture of our frog caps, but this one looks cute and easy to make!)

Then we read another book called Stick by Steve Breen. The little frog’s surprising journey is illustrated wonderfully, with cinematic images of him floating with balloons and going SPLAT! into a windshield!

We read That’s Mine! by Michel Van Zeveren, a funny story about a crowd of animals all claiming a mysterious egg as their own, and then hastily denying their claims when they are afraid to anger the biggest animal of all!

Thats Mine

We finished storytime by dancing The Croaky Pokey adapted from the book by Ethan Long. It’s basically the Hokey Pokey, but with a few lines revised for our green, webbed-footed friends 🙂

The rain has been coming down today (and somewhere, the frogs are happy!) so storytime attendance was small and intimate. Hope everyone has a nice place to curl up with a good book on this rainy day!
