Today’s storytime was all about the all-too-common experience kids have of not always getting their way or being told what or what not to do.  We started with a song and read the book Yes Day! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld.  This is a book about one day when every answer is “YES!”

We sang another song and read a book about a girl who forces her parents and teachers to make up all kinds of new rules to stop the chaos!  It’s called 17 Things I’m Not Allowed To Do Anymore by Jenny Offil and Nancy Carpenter.

We retold the story No, David! with a felt board:

No David broken vase 2 No David felt board 2 No David muddy felt 2 No David naked 2

And finally, we read a cute story about a Dad who won’t go to bed, called My Dad is Big and Strong, But... by Coralie Saudo.  This one got a lot of laughs, especially from the parents in the audience, as the big Dad climbs onto his son’s lap for a bedtime story and begs his son to leave the light on because he’s afraid of the dark.

We finished with a film from the DVD Summertime with Max and Ruby about Ruby not allowing Max to go to her girls-only party:

Hope today was a “Yes Day” for everyone…

“Can you check out these books and the DVD from the library?”

YES!!
