Books We Shared
After singing our welcome song and doing some jumping, we settled down to read our first book, Dog in Charge by K.L. Going. A book with laughs on every page, this tells the story of a dog who is supposed to watch over the cats while the family is out — but the cats are determined to make mischief. Will Dog ever be left in charge again? We followed this up with the Caldecott Award-wining Kitten’s First Full Moon by Kevin Henkes. In this beautifully illustrated book, Kitten is determined to catch the bowl of milk in the sky — the moon.
Flannelboard Story
We got some singing in with a flannelboard based the bestselling Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons by Eric Litwin and James Dean.
Film We Watched
We watched the video based on Peter McCarty’s Hondo and Fabian, available on the DVD “Arnie the Doughnut –and 4 Other Fantastic Adventure Stories”.
Movement
We also did a fun fingerplay you can do at home!
Five Little Kittens
5 little kittens, standing in a row (Hold up five fingers on one hand)
They nod their heads to the children, so. (Bend first knuckle of fingers)
They run to the left (move hand to left)
And they run to the right (move hand to right)
They stand up and stretch in the bright sunlight. (lift hand up)
Along comes a dog, who’s looking for some fun… (move other fist towards fingers)
MEOW! See those 5 kittens run! (hide fingers behind back)
