Our focus for June was SUPERPOWERS! \u00a0We had a short writing exercise followed by a conversation with special guests author Amy Tintera and writer Kimberly Cooper, who answered writing and publishing questions posed by the teens.<\/p>\n

Writing prompt<\/h2>\n

We started out with brainstorming on various superpowers. \u00a0There are usual superpowers as well as not so usual ones, powers that are supernatural versus powers that are more realistic.<\/p>\n

Choose a superpower for your character<\/h3>\n

Write the rules of your superpower; there must be logic behind these rules<\/p>\n

What are the strength\/weaknesses of the power?<\/p>\n

Can you use the power on specific people?<\/p>\n

Are there times when the power does not work?<\/p>\n

What are the political\/social ramifications of this power?<\/p>\n

Build the world<\/h3>\n

Politics of this world<\/p>\n

What time period is it in?<\/p>\n

How do people react to the supernatural?<\/p>\n

Write the origins story<\/h3>\n

How does your character obtain the power?<\/p>\n

What does having this power cost the character?<\/p>\n

Amy, Kimberly, and I answered various questions about writing and publishing. \u00a0Various questions were posed about how to find agents, querying, education, self publishing versus traditional, and the process.<\/p>\n
