Then came Facebook. With technology rapidly changing it’s no wonder that now teens have become bored by MySpace and Facebook and taken on more unique ways of being social.

The following is a short list of quickly-growing social apps among teens:

Snapchat: Take a photo or make a short video, then send it to your friends. The recipient then only gets 1-10 seconds (sender decides on the time) to view the photo/video. www.snapchat.com

Pheed: Many say it’s Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter all rolled into one. This app allows users to share live feeds, photos, texts, and videos. www.pheed.com

Vine: Users are able to create and post video clips, which last no more than 6 seconds. Content is recorded through Vine’s own in app camera. Because the camera only records when the screen is pressed there is a stop-motion effect. www.vine.co

Wanelo: It’s like Pinterest taken to another level. If you click on an image it takes you to where you can actually buy the item. www.wanelo.com

Kik: This is an instant messaging app that allows you to send texts. What sets Kik apart is that it uses a username instead of a phone number. You can also share sketches, photos, voice messages, and other content. www.kik.com

Way back when social networking was in its infancy it seemed that MySpace was the way to go for many teens. The social media site allowed you to post comments and pics on others’ pages, share photos, and even blog.
