But one thing they have in common is that they all need something that only ValleyStart can give them. The most prestigious high school incubator competition in the country with an acceptance rate of 2% and Lucy is here to win it all. She just isn’t sure whether she can say the same for her new teammates. Right from the start, it’s a bumpy road and the three girls realize just how complicated things can get in this fight to win. The pressure and risk is high for all of them and with their personalities will they even be able to stick together till the end of the competition?

Screen Queens was a way better read than I expected it to be and left me completely satisfied in the end. I knew straight from the description that the best part was going to be reading how the girls’ friendships evolved and developed. I most certainly was not disappointed and the writing had me loving their newfound friendship to the max. I had the best time seeing how their characters developed with each other and it was amazing to see how they grew. They all had such different personalities with very different backgrounds but the author was still able to tie in key elements that connected them all throughout the book. I particularly loved Lucy’s character development and how the author switched perspective between the three girls every chapter. It gave a lot of new perspective on the girls and I wouldn’t have written it any other way. One thing that I had some trouble with was understanding what they were saying at times because of all the terms that come from a tech competition based book, but from context clues I was able to get the gist of it. This book did not fail to disappoint when it said it was a girl power book and included important topics that the author tied in phenomenally with the plot and characters. I do have to say there were some scarce inappropriate themes but overall I enjoyed reading this a lot.

4 stars.

Find this book in our catalog: N/A

Catalog Number: N/A

355 pages

Review by Hailey Chen, 13 The Screen Queens By Lori Goldstein Lucy Katz, Maddie Li, and Delia Meyer are three girls with varying personalities and backgrounds.
