{"id":6611,"date":"2021-08-11T14:38:14","date_gmt":"2021-08-11T21:38:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/teens\/?p=6611"},"modified":"2021-10-06T10:53:22","modified_gmt":"2021-10-06T17:53:22","slug":"out-of-the-pantry-mac-and-cheese-pizza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/teens\/2021\/out-of-the-pantry-mac-and-cheese-pizza\/","title":{"rendered":"Out of the Pantry: Mac and cheese pizza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">In this lesson, participants learn to activate yeast, roll out and bake pizza dough, plus make a very simple mac and cheese with roasted red peppers &#8212; all using pantry items.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\"  id=\"_ytid_37922\"  width=\"640\" height=\"360\"  data-origwidth=\"640\" data-origheight=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_2IyiJJVZxg?enablejsapi=1&autoplay=0&cc_load_policy=0&cc_lang_pref=&iv_load_policy=1&loop=0&rel=1&fs=1&playsinline=0&autohide=2&theme=dark&color=red&controls=1&disablekb=0&\" class=\"__youtube_prefs__  no-lazyload\" title=\"YouTube player\"  allow=\"fullscreen; accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen data-no-lazy=\"1\" data-skipgform_ajax_framebjll=\"\"><\/iframe>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\">Mac and Cheese Pizza<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">Yields two 10-inch pizzas<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">Ingredients:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">1\/2 box Elbow pasta<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">8 oz Velveeta<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Roasted red peppers<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Extra oil for greasing pans<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">1 pack (0.25 oz) Active dry yeast<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">1 tsp Sugar<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">1 c warm water<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">2.5 c bread flour + .5 c for kneading<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">2T olive oil<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Plus oil for brushing on dough (and possibly for greasing pans)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">1 tsp salt<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">1 tsp garlic powder<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">1\/4 c pizza sauce<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">1 tsp Oregano<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">Equipment:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Pastry brush for oil (included in kit)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Thermometer (optional)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Timer<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Whisk or spatula<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Pot<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Oven<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">2 Flat sheet trays or pizza rounds<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Large bowl<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Measuring spoons<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Clean counter or pastry board (to roll dough on)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Silpats or oil for sheet tray surface<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Rolling pin<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Pastry cutter (optional)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">Before we start:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Boil water for pasta<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Preheat oven to 450 degrees<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Get two sheet pans with Silpats or lightly greased.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">Prep:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Heat 1 cup drinking\/filtered water to 100-110 degrees. (Boil 1\/2 cup and add 1\/2 cup cold, wait 5 minutes. Do not exceed 140 degrees.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Chop roasted bell peppers<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Heat 1 cup drinking\/filtered water to 100-110 degrees.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">Pizza dough:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">In bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Then sprinkle in yeast, stir, and let stand until creamy (5-10 min). (Activating yeast)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">Mac &amp; cheese:<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Once water boils, cook pasta according to box instructions.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">To yeast:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Add flour, salt, and 2T olive oil. Knead until smooth, but not sticky.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Cover, rest for 5-10 min.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">When pasta is done cooking:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Drain pasta.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In pot, add cooked pasta, velveeta, and chopped roasted bell peppers.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Cover.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">Pre-bake dough:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Roll to 1\/4 inch and place on cooking sheet\/tray<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Brush with oil and sprinkle with garlic powder.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Bake 5-10 min<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Watch out for browning on edges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Adjust time for different cooking surfaces.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">Finish pizza:<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Remove pre-baked dough from oven<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Stir Mac with cheese to combine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Top pizza with sauce and Mac<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Bake 10 min<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">When pizza is done:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Sprinkle oregano garnish<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\">Please recycle!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Compost produce scraps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Wash out the cans and recycle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Recycle cardboard boxes.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\">Pizza dough adapted from:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allrecipes.com\/recipe\/20171\/quick-and-easy-pizza-crust\/\">https:\/\/www.allrecipes.com\/recipe\/20171\/quick-and-easy-pizza-crust\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This lesson was created for Pasadena Public Library by Jane Gov, Youth Services Librarian.
