Age 13, Grade 8<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Who me? A dreamer? No, I don\u2019t dream.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s all within my head. I make senseless<\/span><\/p>\n

goals like buying pints of ice cream.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I watch slideshows in my sleepy head about<\/span><\/p>\n

being Mozart or Bach. My grandmother works<\/span><\/p>\n

with threads\u2014teaches a toddler like me to walk.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I may be a dreamer. I may think, achieve, sleep,<\/span><\/p>\n

awake\u2026 repeat. I dare to defend hurting people<\/span><\/p>\n

or represent those who are about to break.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Once I dreamt for peace and justice,<\/span><\/p>\n

but I was told that wasn\u2019t in. John Lennon said,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not the only one.\u201d Really?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I try not to dream with certainty. I don\u2019t want<\/span><\/p>\n

to be the driest toast when someone finds out.<\/span><\/p>\n

Is it illegal to share my own dreams?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Ornery people will roast me. \u201cIgnore<\/span><\/p>\n

what others say,\u201d I tell myself.<\/span><\/p>\n

A charred dream is nothing to boast.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Wait for others to scream, \u201cHoly Cow!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

I keep dreaming about the garlic knotted desires<\/span><\/p>\n

of my heart like wild geese over cold streams.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
