\u201cThe Day and Night\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Age 13, Grade 8<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

At nights, when I sleep,<\/span><\/p>\n

I break the boundaries<\/span><\/p>\n

of my brain, which I wouldn\u2019t<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

when I\u2019m awake.<\/span><\/p>\n

My brain stops trying.<\/span><\/p>\n

It becomes raw. Real.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It becomes me at my best<\/span><\/p>\n

and my worst. I overflow<\/span><\/p>\n

with questions. I don\u2019t have<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

any desire to answer them.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the day, my brain<\/span><\/p>\n

fools me with many questions.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It deludes me into thinking:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou have all the answers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

During the night, when I shut<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

my eyes, my brain becomes<\/span><\/p>\n

a blank canvas of creation.<\/span><\/p>\n

I want to paint on it<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

the real version of myself.<\/span><\/p>\n

I feel a sense of security.<\/span><\/p>\n

I feel a sense of panic.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Once I open my eyes,<\/span><\/p>\n

the dream manifests in me.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, I welcome the sleep;<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I wait for it. I allow<\/span><\/p>\n

my eyes to slide into drowsiness<\/span><\/p>\n

and enter into my deepest slumber.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
