Teen Advisory Board Seniors<\/span><\/h2>\n

JULIA SEE<\/b> is an accomplished artist, student, and volunteer. She designed the current TAB logo (which are on all the t-shirts), filled in as a judge for the annual One City One Story Art Contest, and played a character in the murder mystery. She\u2019s also a member of the City of Pasadena\u2019s Youth Council. Julia received an early acceptance to John Hopkins University, where she\u2019ll be studying medicine in hopes of becoming a doctor one day. We\u2019ll miss her! Read her interview on the next page.<\/span><\/p>\n

How long have you been a volunteer here? \u00a0TAB member?<\/b><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been volunteering since the 8th grade, so 5 years. Before it was TAB, I was attending Teen Advisory Group meetings, which was also was monthly, but the tasks for those meetings were different than what we do for TAB today. So, I\u2019ve been part of TAB since it started in February 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n

What made you want to join TAB and be a volunteer?<\/b><\/p>\n

I just really like volunteering. I want to continue being more involved in my community.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What was your favorite volunteer project? Or what stood out the most?<\/b><\/p>\n

I like the all, but I guess I really enjoy the craft and art programs. <\/span><\/p>\n

Is there a contribution you\u2019ve made that you\u2019re particularly proud of?<\/b><\/p>\n

Julia won first place in the 2015 One City One Story Art Contest, High School category.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We\u2019ve put on a lot of events, and I like seeing my ideas being used\u2026 like seeing something I chose being used for the Summer Reading Challenge and the Winter program series we do. Also, since my artwork won the contest last year and it was on the Teen Zine cover, people recognize that. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Do you think compared to other teens you have a different understanding about what libraries represent?<\/b><\/p>\n

Yes. Most of the people I know come to the library to do homework, but there\u2019s so much more going on. There are lots of events and things to do here; they don\u2019t expect it or take advantage of all the opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n

What skills have you learned from volunteering at the library you think are most useful?<\/b><\/p>\n

Leadership. I get to tell people what to do during events. <\/span><\/p>\n

Do you volunteer anywhere else?<\/b><\/p>\n

I volunteer at the Huntington Hospital, a volunteer club at school, and the Pasadena Youth Council. <\/span><\/p>\n

What college are you going to? \u00a0What career path are you aiming for?<\/b><\/p>\n

Johns Hopkins University! \u00a0I\u2019m between behavioral biology, molecular biology, and medicine-science-humanities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Are you ready to get out there on your own? \u00a0Anything that makes you nervous?<\/b><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know. Yes, because I\u2019m ready for a new challenge. No, because I\u2019m leaving Pasadena. I\u2019m highly involved in this community and now I\u2019m uprooting myself and going elsewhere. But it\u2019s exciting, too.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
