{"id":2583,"date":"2016-01-29T11:20:06","date_gmt":"2016-01-29T19:20:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/teens\/?p=2583"},"modified":"2016-01-29T11:20:06","modified_gmt":"2016-01-29T19:20:06","slug":"teen-advisory-board-january-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/teens\/2016\/teen-advisory-board-january-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Teen Advisory Board &#8212; January 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Teen Advisory Board 1\/23\/16<\/p>\n<p>Present: \u00a0Cady, Hadley, Haneen, Chris, Kara, Madison, Maya, Julia<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Agenda:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>News<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/news\/press-releases\/2016\/01\/american-library-association-announces-2016-youth-media-award-winners\" target=\"_blank\">Youth Media Awards<\/a> announced<\/span><\/li>\n<li>New teen book club (Spectrum Teen Book Club) is starting at Santa Catalina Branch this Spring. This book club is targeted to autistic teens and teens on the spectrum. We&#8217;ll be working towards having a joint meeting with YA Book Club.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Breakout &amp; project\u00a0updates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Teen Tech Team: Makey program on March 5 &#8212; Chris is working on a lesson plan and already has a basic framework. He&#8217;s written an introduction. He and Nathan have decided to include a competition-like learning module for this\u00a0program. He and Nathan will continue working on the lesson throughout February.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>PR Team: \u00a0Maya and Cady designed buttons for our upcoming Welcome to Night Vale Listening Party. Maya is also in the process of designing the &#8220;game board&#8221; instructions for the teen Summer Reading program; this is her weekly project until the Feb. TAB meeting where she will present it to the rest of the group.<\/p>\n<p>Readers Advisory Team: \u00a0Kara and Madison worked on selecting titles for the YA Book Club for meetings in April &#8211; August; they also checked the titles in our inventory and discussed who will lead the discussions. Meanwhile, Hadley is working on a blog post listing\u00a0their selections from the Frost-bot Frenzy display.<\/p>\n<p>Teen Relations: Haneen and Julia worked on gathering and calculating votes for the TAB shirts. They demonstrated the design (front\/back, colors) to the other members and a few debated on the best option for all of them.\u00a0Haneen and Julia assembled the orders.<\/p>\n<p>Design Advisory: Meanwhile, Meep is helping to shift the YA collection\u00a0to create a new space for a NEW books section in Teen Central. The display shelves have also been shifted along. It is estimated that we&#8217;ll have a NEW YA books section by the first week of February.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Upcoming advocacy event:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>STATE OF THE YOUTH RESOURCES FAIR: \u00a0Wed. Feb 3, 5-7:30 @ Marshall Fundamental School. Teens will be asked for their opinions on various important issues in our community.
