Our 8th and final storytime of the summer session was all about Babies<\/strong><\/em>!\u00a0\u00a0An infant storytime about Babies<\/em><\/strong> –\u00a0what could be more appropriate?\u00a0\u00a0I introduced everybody to Ralph (the library baby) and we pointed to his\u00a0nose,\u00a0\u00a0eyes, hands, feet, hair and bellybutton!\u00a0 Then\u00a0we all tried to find our own body parts!\u00a0\u00a0After that it was babies, babies EVERYWHERE!<\/p>\n

Here\u00a0are\u00a0the books,\u00a0songs, rhymes, flannel stories and activities we explored about our topic.<\/p>\n

Books We Shared<\/h4>\n

We\u00a0read the book I Am a Baby<\/span><\/a> by\u00a0Kathryn Madeline Allen.\u00a0 \u00a0In it we see real photographs of beautiful babies as they introduce us to their world.\u00a0 There are diapers and clothes, bibs and cribs, toys and more!\u00a0 Infants love looking at baby faces and this book truly resonated!\u00a0 This book is a great way to introduce the realistic elements of nonfiction to your\u00a0baby.<\/p>\n

Of course we followed with a board book that stretched the truth.\u00a0 I used flannel pieces to accompany Taro Miura’s book,\u00a0\u00a0There, There<\/a>.\u00a0 (I couldn’t resist).\u00a0 It begins with a frog, a chicken, a dog and a cow speaking in their own languages (ribbit, cluck, woof and moo, respectively).\u00a0 Then a baby enters the picture with a big WAHHHH!\u00a0 That sets everyone crying with a WAHHHHH!\u00a0 What does baby do?\u00a0 He stops crying long enough to comfort all of the animals\u00a0 with a “there, there…everyone.”\u00a0 Simple, yet effective in teaching animal identification and animal sounds and\u00a0what baby hasn’t been comforted with a “there, there'” from someone who loves them?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In Ten Little Fingers<\/span><\/a>, illustrated by Annie Kubler, we see a traditional rhyming\u00a0finger play accompanied by visuals.\u00a0 You can act out the finger play with baby as you read.\u00a0 That’s what we did as a group.\u00a0 Click here for a video illustrating the movements:\u00a0 Ten Little Fingers\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n
