We had fun reading about City Traffic<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0during our preschool Storytime!\u00a0 Here are\u00a0the books, flannel stories, songs & activities we shared about our theme:<\/p>\n

Books We Shared<\/h4>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Go!Go!Go! STOP!<\/span><\/strong><\/a> by Charise Mericle Harper is\u00a0all about traffic lights and a little miscommunication.\u00a0 We start with little green<\/em> who says her very first word – Go!\u00a0 She says it softly, than medium than LOUDLY.\u00a0 The cars and trucks obey her command and they GO!\u00a0 It gets tricky\u00a0though because it is the only word she knows so\u00a0she can’t get any of the cars to\u00a0STOP!\u00a0 Then little red<\/em> enters the story.\u00a0 Can you guess little red’s only word?\u00a0 STOP!\u00a0 This book is fun, engaging, interactive and teaches children a number of concepts.\u00a0 And by the way, little yellow<\/em> enters the story at the very end to slow things down a bit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nicholas Blechman’s book<\/span> NIGHT LIGHT<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>is part<\/span> <\/span>guessing game and part counting book and definitely ALL about things that move!\u00a0 <\/span>Count the nighttime lights on a train, a helicopter, a fire truck, and seven more vehicles in this bold picture book with die-cut surprises.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

1 <\/span>light, shining bright? A train!<\/span><\/em>
\n7 lights, flashing red and white? A fire truck!<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

And so on all the way to ten lights!\u00a0 We revert back to\u00a01 light<\/em> at the very end – a night light<\/em>.\u00a0 Great fun to read aloud – the children loved guessing, discovering new vehicles (snow plow) and anticipating each surprise.<\/span><\/p>\n

My Bus<\/span><\/strong> <\/a>by Bryon Barton show a bus driver picking up five dogs and five cats on his route through town.\u00a0 He drops some off at the airport to take a plane, some to the train where “they ride away” and some to the boat where “they sail away”.\u00a0 The bus driver drives his final passenger\u00a0home – his dog!\u00a0\u00a0Bold, bright illustrations, simple text and an introduction to basic\u00a0forms of\u00a0transportation make this a great read aloud for preschoolers.<\/p>\n

REPEAT until all of the cars are on the flannel board.<\/p>\n

Then say:
\nThere are lots of cars driving down the street, (pretend to have a steering wheel)
\nWhich color car is the biggest you see? (Let the children guess)
\nBig cars, little cars (spread arms big and little)
\nBeep, beep, beep (tap nose three times)<\/p>\n

Then finally:

\nWhich color car is the smallest you see? (Let the children guess)
