We read the book <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1594967__Smanners%20monkeys__Orightresult__U__X2?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Manners are Not for Monkeys<\/a> by Heather Tekavec and David Huyk.  It&#8217;s a silly story about a zoo that gets all mixed up because the human kids are acting like monkeys and the monkeys are acting like well-behaved boys and girls!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1594967__Smanners%20monkeys__Orightresult__U__X2?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/618jto9%2BE-L._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg\" width=\"260\" height=\"235\" alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then we talked about our Thanksgivings and all the trash and cleanup that you have to do after dinner.  We read a poem by Shel Silverstein called &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/mste.illinois.edu\/courses\/ci407su01\/students\/north\/kristy\/Project\/K-Poem-Net.html\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage Out<\/a>.&#8221;  We used a flannelboard to illustrate all the wacky garbage piling up in the Stouts&#8217; trash can!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/11\/IMG_20161126_104748.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/11\/IMG_20161126_104748-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"img_20161126_104748\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6760\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/11\/IMG_20161126_104748-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/11\/IMG_20161126_104748-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/11\/IMG_20161126_104748-175x131.jpg 175w, https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/11\/IMG_20161126_104748-667x500.jpg 667w, https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/11\/IMG_20161126_104748.jpg 1296w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With the help of parents who speak languages other than English, we all learned how to say thank-you in ten languages:<\/p>\n<ul>\nKorean: kamsahamnida<\/ul>\n<ul>\nFrench: Merci<\/ul>\n<ul>\nArmenian: Mersi<\/ul>\n<ul>\nChinese: Xie Xie (syeh syeh)<\/ul>\n<ul>\nRussian: Spaseeba<\/ul>\n<ul>\nGerman: Danke<\/ul>\n<ul>\nJapanese: Domo arigatou<\/ul>\n<ul>\nItalian: Grazie<\/ul>\n<ul>\nSpanish: Gracias<\/ul>\n<ul>\nTagalog: Salamat<\/ul>\n<p>After that we read another book called <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1565387__Srude%20cakes__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Rude Cakes<\/a> by Rowboat Watkins.  Rude cakes never say please or thank you, or wait their turn, or listen when the speaker sounds boring, but they sure do appreciate it when Giant Cyclopses are a bit more behaved!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1565387__Srude%20cakes__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/51Y79K9IQ0L._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg\" width=\"260\" height=\"260\" alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After this we sang and danced to &#8220;Shake My Sillies Out&#8221; by Raffi, and then read another book about manners called <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1519435__Sno%20slurping__Orightresult__U__X6?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">No Slurping, No Burping<\/a> by Lorelay Bove and Kara LaReau.  It&#8217;s a book about two very well-mannered children who have to school their father on how to ask for things politely, not eat with his mouth full, and not shout at the dinner table, because they&#8217;re expecting a special guest: Grandma!  But will Grandma remember her manners?  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1519435__Sno%20slurping__Orightresult__U__X6?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/51DUnnZpbYL._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg\" width=\"260\" height=\"317\" alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We watched part of an episode of Daniel Tiger&#8217;s Neighborhood, the episode about Thank You Day on the DVD <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1551628__Sdaniel%20tiger%20holidays__P0%2C1__Orightresult__U__X1?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Daniel Tiger&#8217;s Happy Holidays<\/a>.  The episode shows everyone in the neighborhood attaching Thank You Notes to the neighborhood Thank You Tree.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1551628__Sdaniel%20tiger%20holidays__P0%2C1__Orightresult__U__X1?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-12xcr34Hhto\/VEqZws-2QxI\/AAAAAAAALbs\/AQNAG_IUm-I\/s1600\/Daniel-Tiger.jpg\" width=\"530\" height=\"760\" alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We made a Thank You Tree of our own, and the children came up one by one and got a leaf to add to the &#8220;Thank You Tree&#8221; board.  I asked each of them what they were thankful for.  Some of the kids weren&#8217;t sure what that meant so I asked them, &#8220;What makes you happy? I have a saying: &#8220;Gratitude is the most profitable meditation.&#8221;  When we meditate on the things we are grateful for, we discover riches we sometimes forget we have, and we gain new riches of happiness and optimism!
