she dreams of a red ladybug, an orange fish, a purple butterfly, a blue clock&#8230;all of the colors of the rainbow are represented in this book of vivid colors.\u00a0 In Eric Carle&#8217;s classic we are introduced to a young artist who exclaims:\u00a0 &#8220;I am an artist and I paint a&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0 Of course each page highlights an animal the artist has painted in bold, unpredictable colors.\u00a0 His final painting is a\u00a0masterpiece &#8211; a polka dotted donkey!\u00a0 This was a\u00a0big hit with both the infants and the toddlers.<\/p>\n<p>During toddler storytime,\u00a0 we also explored color mixing with a flannel story inspired by Ellen Stoll Walsh&#8217;s book, <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/search\/C__SMouse%20Paint__Orightresult__U?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #800080;text-decoration: underline\">Mouse Paint<\/span><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 The story begins with<span style=\"color: #000000\"> three white mice<\/span> who usually play in front of a white wall (that way the\u00a0pesky cat can&#8217;t find\u00a0them).\u00a0 We find out what happens when they go on an adventure and run into three cans of paint &#8211; style=\"color: #333399;text-decoration: underline\">Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We took the book by Bill Martin, Jr. and turned it into an interactive flannel board story. \u00a0The infants and toddlers were attracted to the colorful animals and\u00a0enjoyed identifying both the animals and the colors.\u00a0\u00a0I used a handheld flannel &amp; the regular flannel board for both age groups.\u00a0 By doing so,\u00a0the children and I could identify the color of each animal\u00a0prior to\u00a0placing it on the larger, standing flannel board. \u00a0The kids loved it!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?<\/p>\n<p>I see a red bird looking at me.<\/p>\n<p>Red bird, red bird, what do you see?&#8221;&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399\"><em>(Repeat\u00a0until you&#8217;ve gone through all of the animals &#8211;\u00a0yellow duck, green frog, blue horse, purple cat, white dog\u00a0and goldfish<\/em>.)<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #008000\">TODDLER STORYTIME\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #000080;text-decoration: underline\">Mouse Paint<\/span> <em>(abridged version of Ellen Stoll Walsh&#8217;s book)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The story begins with <span style=\"color: #000000\">three white mice<\/span> who usually play in front of a white wall (that way the\u00a0pesky cat can&#8217;t find\u00a0them).<\/p>\n<p>One day they decide to take a chance and go on a wonderful adventure.\u00a0 They scurry through the park and find three cans of paint:\u00a0 a red can, a blue can and a yellow can.\u00a0 Of course they start to wonder what it would be like to be another color.\u00a0 So the first mouse jumps into the red can and when he comes out, he is red.\u00a0 The second mouse jumps into the blue can and when he comes out he is blue.\u00a0 Finally, the third mouse jumps into the yellow can and&#8230;you guessed it!\u00a0 She comes out yellow!\u00a0 They were so thrilled&#8230;they thought it was magic!\u00a0 But then the blue mouse turned to the yellow mouse and said, &#8220;You look so bright and sunny!\u00a0 I want to be yellow like you!&#8221;\u00a0 So he jumped into the yellow can of paint, but when he jumped out&#8230;he wasn&#8217;t yellow, he was <strong><span style=\"color: #008080\">GREEN, BECAUSE BLUE MIXED WITH YELLOW MAKES GREEN<\/span><\/strong>!\u00a0 The yellow mouse was so excited that she decided to jump into the red can to see what color she would become.\u00a0 When she jumped out, she realized she had turned <strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600\">ORANGE, BECAUSE YELLOW MIXED WITH RED MAKES ORANGE<\/span><\/strong>!\u00a0 Well the red mouse wanted to join the fun so he decided to jump into the blue can to see what color he would become.\u00a0 When he jumped out he saw that he&#8217;d turned <strong><span style=\"color: #800080\">PURPLE, BECAUSE RED MIXED WITH BLUE MAKES PURPLE<\/span><\/strong>!\u00a0 All three mice were so excited at their discovery that they spread the word
