On November 8th, we learned a lot about different kinds of bugs!\u00a0\u00a0We listened to a little boy named Lenny singing a song about all of the bugs he finds in his garden,\u00a0we explored\u00a0a book about a missing butterfly, and another about a boy’s love for bugs.\u00a0\u00a0Here are the stories, activities and songs we shared about our theme.<\/p>\n

\"i-love-bugs\"\"lenny\"\"butterfly\"<\/p>\n

During our infant storytime, we read\u00a0Lenny in the Garden\u00a0<\/span><\/span>by Ken Wilson-Max<\/span>.\u00a0 In this book Lenny sings a little song as he discovers the different insects in his garden.\u00a0 In Butterfly, Butterfly<\/span><\/a> by Petr Horacek, we are introduced to a young girl who is mesmerized by a beautiful butterfly that flies away.\u00a0 In her search for that butterfly, she encounters many other crawly,\u00a0wriggly creatures until she\u00a0finally lies down, looks up at the sky and voila – the butterfly reappears.\u00a0 Gorgeous illustrations with a pop up surprise at the end of the story.\u00a0 Because this book is too\u00a0long for infants, I paraphrased some of the text.<\/p>\n

During toddler storytime, we shared Emma Dodd’s I Love Bugs!<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0In it a young boy chronicles all of the different types of bugs he loves.\u00a0 Bold,\u00a0 colorful illustrations with fun and\u00a0factual text\u00a0make this\u00a0a great book for the budding entomologist.\u00a0 We also read Butterfly, Butterfly\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/a>in it’s entirety.\u00a0 I couldn’t resist sharing that\u00a0beautiful pop up surprise at the\u00a0end!<\/p>\n

We played a guessing game today.<\/p>\n

I secretly hid\u00a0a bee behind one of the rugs.\u00a0 Can you guess which one?\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Then we all shouted out:\u00a0\u00a0Bug in a rug, bug in a rug, where is that bug in a rug???<\/p>\n

We looked behind the blue, the orange, the green and the striped rug before we finally looked behind\u00a0the red rug with black polka dots.\u00a0 Guess what?\u00a0 There was our bee!!\u00a0 The kids were mesmerized the entire time and were so excited to see the bee appear.<\/p>\n
