I used them to tell the story of <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1504532__Shello%20my%20name%20is%20ruby__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Hello, My Name is Ruby<\/a> by Phillip C. Stead.  In my telling, Ruby is a chicken (because I have more chickens than anything else!).  I try to model storytelling with puppets so that parents and kids can learn that the fun of a book doesn&#8217;t have to end when a book is over&#8211;you can try retelling the story by acting it out with toys or in person.<\/p>\n<p>Then we read the book <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1528238__Sfroodle__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Froodle<\/a> by Antoinette Portis.  It&#8217;s a story about finding your voice, letting go of other people&#8217;s expectations, and just being silly!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1528238__Sfroodle__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.macmillan.com\/folio-assets\/macmillan_us_frontbookcovers_1000H\/9781596439221.jpg\" width=\"1244\" height=\"1000\" alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We sang &#8220;Five Little Ducks&#8221; with Susie Tallman and Friends from their <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1505250__Sfive%20little%20ducks__Ff%3Afacetmediatype%3Aj%3Aj%3AMusic%3A%3A__P0%2C1__Orightresult__U__X3?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Animal Songs and Stories CD<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/02\/five-little-ducks.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/02\/five-little-ducks-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"five little ducks\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2735\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/02\/five-little-ducks-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/02\/five-little-ducks-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/02\/five-little-ducks.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then we read a silly story called <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1530073__Spardon%20me__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Pardon Me<\/a> by Daniel Miyares, about a yellow bird who is annoyed that all the animals in the swamp keep interrupting his peace and quiet, even to the point of preventing them from warning him about real danger!  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1530073__Spardon%20me__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/d28hgpri8am2if.cloudfront.net\/tagged_assets\/cvr9781442489974\/pardon-me!-9781442489974_hr.jpg\" width=\"3377\" height=\"2775\" alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We did a very short flannelboard story about Three Talking Toucans, adapted from a song I found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.childfun.com\/themes\/world\/rainforests\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/02\/three-talking-toucans.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/02\/three-talking-toucans-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"three talking toucans\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2644\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/02\/three-talking-toucans-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/02\/three-talking-toucans-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/02\/three-talking-toucans.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Three talking toucans sitting in a tree<br \/>\nThe first one turned &amp; squawked at me!<br \/>\nThree little toucans sitting like kings<br \/>\nThe second one said &#8220;I can flap my wings!&#8221;<br \/>\nThree little toucans sitting side by side<br \/>\nThe third one said &#8220;I can open my big beak wide!&#8221;<br \/>\nThen a little chameleon the toucans spied&#8211;<br \/>\nBut he changed color fast, so that he could hide!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(The chameleon is double-sided, light and dark green)<\/p>\n<p>We sang Six Little Ducks &#8212; I couldn&#8217;t find it at first so we did it a capella, but <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1355506__Ssix%20little%20ducks%20raffi__Orightresult__U__X1?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Raffi<\/a> has a good version of it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/02\/six-little-ducks.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/02\/six-little-ducks-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"six little ducks\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2736\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/02\/six-little-ducks-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/02\/six-little-ducks-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/02\/six-little-ducks.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I think this next book didn&#8217;t work so well for the crowd today, and required a bit too much abridging, but I&#8217;ll list it here anyway: <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1550850__Syou%20nest%20here%20with%20me__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">You Nest Here With Me<\/a> by Jane Yolen, Heidi E.Y. Stemple and Melissa Sweet.  It talks about a lot of different birds most people won&#8217;t know, and it is written in beautiful verse.  It would work great one-on-one at bedtime but it needs to be very abridged for a preschool group.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1550850__Syou%20nest%20here%20with%20me__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/51B-TO1hirL._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg\" width=\"260\" height=\"205\" alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our movie was a hit though: <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1519183__Sdont%20let%20the%20pigeon%20stay%20up%20late__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Don&#8217;t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late<\/a> based on the book by Mo Willems.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1519183__Sdont%20let%20the%20pigeon%20stay%20up%20late__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newvideo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DontLetPigeonStayUpLateSSTDVD.jpg\" width=\"1413\" height=\"1788\" alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1317334__Sdont%20let%20the%20pigeon%20stay%20up%20late__P0%2C3__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c4.q-assets.com\/images\/products\/p\/hp\/hp-080_1z.jpg\" width=\"948\" height=\"999\" alt=\"\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We finished with the song &#8220;[If] I Was a Bird&#8221; by Old Town School of Folk Music on their <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1348542__SOld%20Town%20School%20of%20Folk%20Music.%20__Orightresult__X4?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Wiggleworms Love You CD<\/a>.
