{"id":4640,"date":"2015-11-18T20:28:17","date_gmt":"2015-11-19T04:28:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/?p=4640"},"modified":"2016-12-06T18:29:21","modified_gmt":"2016-12-07T02:29:21","slug":"dogs-estorytime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/2015\/dogs-estorytime\/","title":{"rendered":"Dogs &#8211; eStorytime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"title\">On October 30, we had our last eStorytime\u00a0of 2015. \u00a0Since the programs are held on Friday mornings, and most of the Fridays in November and December are holidays, we&#8217;ve decided to put the eStorytimes on hiatus for a bit. \u00a0Of course, if you love them and want to see them back in the new year, please let us know!<\/p>\n<p>So, to finish out this year&#8217;s series, we talked about human&#8217;s best friend &#8212; dogs!<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Apps We Shared<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/digital-storytime.com\/images\/scaled_DearZoo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"145\" height=\"108\" \/>\u00a0<strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/a2.mzstatic.com\/us\/r30\/Purple7\/v4\/18\/44\/cc\/1844cc36-9082-ff8a-ba88-0be17a9fe63a\/icon175x175.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"114\" height=\"114\" \/>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jeninthelibrary.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/07\/felt-board-app-logo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1735\" src=\"https:\/\/jeninthelibrary.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/07\/felt-board-app-logo.png?w=91&amp;h=88\" alt=\"Felt Board app Logo\" width=\"122\" height=\"118\" \/><\/a>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pivotalkids.com\/hairy_maclary_app1.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"111\" height=\"114\" \/>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.slaphappylarry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Just-Me-And-My-Puppy-App-Icon.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"110\" height=\"110\" \/><\/strong><br \/>\nOur first app was based on the classic board book <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Dear Zoo<\/span> by Rod Campbell. \u00a0A young child writes a letter to the zoo asking for a pet &#8212; but nothing that they send back is just right. \u00a0Until they think very very hard and come up with the best companion. \u00a0Unfortunately, the app is no longer available for download, but <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/search\/C__Scampbell%20dear%20zoo__Orightresult__U?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\">you can still check out the book from your local Pasadena Public Library branch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Next we played with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sagosago.com\/app\/sago_mini_friends\">Sago Mini app Friends<\/a>\u00a0(FREE: iOS,\u00a0 Android, Windows, Amazon). \u00a0We helped Harvey the dog go on various playdates with his friends, including settling down for a nap with Robin the Bird, growing a flower with Jinja the Cat, and blowing bubbles with hamster. \u00a0This is a wonderful app for generating conversation with your child.<\/p>\n<p>I love doing flannelboard stories during my regular storytimes, and I love that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.softwaresmoothie.com\/app\/felt-board\/\">Felt Board from Software Smoothie<\/a>\u00a0($2.99; iOS) makes it easy to bring this idea into eStorytime as well! \u00a0Here&#8217;s a screenshot and the rhyme that we shared on the electronic feltboard:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jeninthelibrary.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/estorytime-five-little-puppy-dogs-feltboard.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1810\" src=\"https:\/\/jeninthelibrary.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/estorytime-five-little-puppy-dogs-feltboard.png?w=300&amp;h=225\" alt=\"eStorytime Five Little Puppy Dogs Feltboard\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Five Little\u00a0Puppy Dogs<\/span><br \/>\n5 little\u00a0puppy dogs by the kennel door<br \/>\nOne left the crowd, then there were four.<br \/>\n4 little puppy dogs, running round a tree<br \/>\nMother called one home and then there were three.<br \/>\n3 little puppy dogs playing with a shoe<br \/>\nOne ran after a cat, then there were two<br \/>\n2 little puppy dogs having so much fun<br \/>\nOne went to find a bone, then there was one<br \/>\n1 little puppy dog sitting in the sun,<br \/>\nShe went in the kennel and then there were none.<\/p>\n<p>We finished up our eStorytime with two book apps. \u00a0First up, <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/hairy-maclary-from-donaldsons\/id383481759?mt=8\">Hairy Maclary from Donaldson\u2019s Dairy by Lynley Dodd, from Penguin New Zealand<\/a>\u00a0($4.99; iOS). \u00a0Hairy Maclary the dog sets out with his friends for a stroll &#8211; but what happens when they meet up with the neighborhood cat? \u00a0This is a silly rhyming story. \u00a0(And if you&#8217;re a Doctor Who fan, it&#8217;s narrated by David Tennant!) \u00a0Last, we saw Little Critter take care of his new puppy in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oceanhousemedia.com\/products\/justmeandmypuppy\/&amp;legacy\/\">Just Me and My Puppy by Mercer Mayer, from Oceanhouse Media<\/a> ($1.99; iOS, Android, Kindle, Nook).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Movements<\/h2>\n<p>Try these fun actions at home\u00a0with your child!
