\nToday’s storytime celebrated school, which kids in our local public schools have already started, and kids in our private schools are starting soon! We started with the song “Clap Your Hands” and then read the book Llama Llama Misses Mama<\/a> by Anna Dewdney. In the book, our little llama is starting his first day of preschool but isn’t prepared for the new experience of being without his mama all day. My own daughter started school on Tuesday, and one of her classmates was crying. I’m sure at least a few of the kids in my audience today know what that feels like!\n<\/p>\n

\nWe sang “Mary Had a Little Lamb”–\n<\/p>\n

\"mary<\/a><\/p>\n

\n–and then we read another book, How Do Dinosaurs Go to School?<\/a> by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague.\n<\/p>\n

\nWe did a counting down activity and sang a song to the tune of “Five Little Monkeys”–\n<\/p>\n

Five red apples, sitting in a tree,
\nTeasing Mr. Slinky Worm, “You can’t catch me!
\nYou can’t catch me!”
\nThen along came Mr. Slinky Worm, and… CRUNCH!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nOur last book was called Delia’s Dull Day<\/a> by Andy Myer. In it, a girl named Delia complains about how boring her life is, all while amazing things are happening all around her! It should make us think twice the next time we say we learned “nothing” and did “nothing” at school today. \ud83d\ude09\n<\/p>\n

\nWe finished with the song “Wheels on the Bus,” and an invitation to check out some great books about school! The titles below are linked to the catalog records so that you can request them and check them out from your local branch. Have a great weekend!\n<\/p>\n
