Saturday &#8211; Fish!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We read stories about\u00a0fish and talked a bit about how fish breathe underwater!\u00a0 Below are some of the stories\u00a0and activities we shared:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/07\/Kengeist.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4060\" src=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/07\/Kengeist.jpg\" alt=\"Kengeist\" width=\"300\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You remember\u00a0the story about\u00a0The Three Little Pigs, right?\u00a0 Well this is an underwater take on this classic\u00a0\u00a0story.\u00a0 Author Ken Geist replaced those pigs with\u00a0three little fish and instead of the\u00a0&#8220;big bad wolf&#8221; Smiley!)<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/07\/Keith-Faulkner.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4059\" src=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/07\/Keith-Faulkner-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Keith Faulkner\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/07\/Keith-Faulkner-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/07\/Keith-Faulkner.jpg 375w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A boy\u00a0goes fishing and catches a small grey fish&#8230;as time goes on, he realizes that the little fish is growing (exponentially) into a HUGE grey whale.\u00a0 Eventually the boy runs out of containers (jar, fish tank, bathtub) to hold the rapidly expanding creature and he does the right thing and returns the whale to the sea.\u00a0 He feels lonely without his companion and he consoles himself by buying a tiny goldfish.\u00a0\u00a0Every now and then he gets a glimpse of his beautiful grey whale when he looks out the window at the ocean.\u00a0 Keith Faulkner and Jonathan Lambert do a marvelous job with the visuals, the lift-the-flap surprises and the overall cadence of the story.\u00a0 One of my personal favorites and always well-loved by children and adults alike.<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Our Flannel Board:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4058\" src=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/07\/f-little-fish-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"f little fish\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/07\/f-little-fish-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/07\/f-little-fish.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Five little fish swimming near the shore,<\/p>\n<p>One got caught and then there were four.<\/p>\n<p>Four little fish swimming in the sea,<\/p>\n<p>One got caught and then there were three.<\/p>\n<p>Three little fish in the ocean blue,<\/p>\n<p>One got caught and then there were two!<\/p>\n<p>Two little fish, swimming in the sun,\u00a0 One got caught and then there was one.<\/p>\n<p>One little fish heading straight for home, she decided she would NEVER, EVER ROAM!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Our Fingerplay:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">One, two, three, four, five&#8230;(put one finger out at a time &#8211; right hand))<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Once I caught a fish alive! (put hands together and wiggle fingers like a fish)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Six, seven, eight, nine, ten&#8230;(put one finger out at a time &#8211; left hand)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Then I threw it back again. (make a throwing motion)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Why did you let it go? (hold out hands asking why)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Because it bit my finger so (shake hand as if hurt)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Which finger did it bite? (shrug shoulders)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">This little finger on my right. &#8211; the visuals are crisp, simple and stunning and the premise is irresistible to preschoolers.\u00a0 There is a little pink fish who likes to roam.\u00a0 The trick?\u00a0 The reader has to figure out where the fish is hiding.\u00a0 Each scene becomes more complex as we follow the little fish as he moves\u00a0from a small glass bowl, to a potted plant, to a candy jar and\u00a0eventually\u00a0 to\u00a0a busy circus scene.\u00a0 Ultimately, we find the fish\u00a0at his final destination &#8211;\u00a0a large, fish-filled swimming pool!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/07\/swimmy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4065\" Fish is Fish from the Scholastic Video collection titled Swimmy.\u00a0 Fish has a friend who starts out looking like a fish but turns into a tadpole and then a full-grown frog!\u00a0 Fish wants to believe his friend is a fish and will never leave but that&#8217;s not possible; however, Frog does come back to visit and tells fish about the wonderful things he sees on land&#8230;Fish decides he wants to see these beautiful things too and jumps out of the water and onto the shore.\u00a0 I won&#8217;t give away the ending.\u00a0 The children loved this movie.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>More
