<\/a><\/p>\n\nWe sang “Open Shut Them” and then guessed at the animals hiding in my “I Spy” box. After that we read a book about an animal that lives in the savannas of Australia: the kangaroo! David Ezra Stein is one of my favorite authors for very young children. Pouch<\/em><\/a>! is about a kangaroo who ventures outside of his mother’s pouch to see the world, but quickly jumps back in every time he sees a new animal, until one day he sees an animal that looks just like him.\n<\/p>\n \nWe played a game with the flannelboard, looking under various brightly colored hats for a meerkat:\n<\/p>\n \n(it’s hard to see but the one on the right is a black top hat with a white ribbon)\n<\/p>\n Meerkat, meerkat, Meerkat, meerkat, \nWe danced to the song “If I Was a Bird,” then we read another book. Hide and Seek Harry Around the House<\/em><\/a> is a funny board book by Kenny Harrison about a hippo who is always far too easy to find!\n<\/p>\n \nWe learned a new song:\n<\/p>\n Are you small like a mouse, Additional verses: Do you stand very still \nWe did a counting activity on the flannelboard with five little lions:\n<\/p>\n One Little Lion<\/strong> One little lion, roaring at the zoo, \nWe brought out our puppets for some more furry fun, and sang a song to the tune of “Do You Know the Muffin Man?”:\n<\/p>\n Do you see the kangaroo, the kangaroo, the kangaroo? \nOur video was an oldie but a goodie: “The Hiccup King,” featuring the Saggy Baggy Elephant from the DVD “The Poky Little Puppy and Friends<\/a>.”<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
