Cooking simple meals with your child offers opportunities to bond and teach lessons about nutrition and food preparation.\u00a0 There are also a number of fun summer activities you could plan around the theme of food.\u00a0 Besides who wouldn\u2019t want a budding chef in the house?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019ve listed some suggestions below:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to one of Pasadena\u2019s local farmer\u2019s markets and let your child pick out some tomatoes and cucumbers\u2026then go home and make <i>My Big Fat Greek Salad<\/i> (p. 102, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">The Spatulatta Cookbook<\/span>).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Introduce your preschooler to the concept of cooking AND counting.\u00a0 You\u2019ll have to do the actual chopping when preparing the Counting Soup recipe, but they can do the counting as they look at a visual display of the recipe steps (pgs. 46 and 47 of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Salad People and More Real Recipes <\/span>cookbook).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>If your little princess wants to have her very own tea party, check out\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Pink Princess Tea Parties<\/span>\u00a0for ideas on how to make the event fun, delicious and special.\u00a0 The recipes are easy and will appeal to <i>girly<\/i> girls.\u00a0 Barbara Beery has created a series of\u00a0<i>Pink Princess<\/i> cookbooks &#8211; try them all!<\/li>\n<li>Finally, if you want to increase\u00a0a reluctant eater\u2019s intake of fruits and vegetables, use some of the recipes in the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Kid\u2019s Fun and Healthy Cookbook<\/span>.\u00a0 Kids tend to eat what they make with their own hands so this would be a good way to get them to eat more nutritious fare.\u00a0 One of the neat features about this cookbook is the <i>Food Facts<\/i> section on each page.\u00a0 It\u2019s filled with nutritional information on the ingredients used for each recipe.\u00a0 Try the <i>Strawberry Yogurt Crunch<\/i> for starters (p. 24)\u2026it&#8217;s yummy!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong> Just a few ideas for a delicious summer!<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In keeping with this year&#8217;s\u00a0Summer Reading Club theme, Reading is So Delicious, I thought I\u2019d suggest some wonderful cookbooks for kids.
