Sorry it took me so long to post this! My daughter was sick, so I was out a lot this week.<\/p>\n

Last Tuesday’s storytime was about Writing, one of the five early literacy skills your child needs so that they can start school ready to learn how to read. Since learning about shapes and playing with writing instruments are two great ways your toddler can get practice with this skill.<\/p>\n

Our letter of the day was W:<\/p>\n

That’s a killer whale at the bottom, but it’s hard to see against the similar black background.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Our first book,\u00a0Andrew Drew and Drew<\/a>\u00a0by Barney Saltzberg, is a book in the tradition of Harold and the Purple Crayon–it’s about a boy who loves to draw, who starts with a line and ends with “magic”!<\/p>\n

After that we read\u00a0Not a Box<\/a> by Antoinette Portis. I chose this one because it has a lot of shapes and a lot of imagination!<\/p>\n

We told a story about shapes at the playground, and reunited the baby shapes with their mommies and daddies:<\/p>\n

We played with bubbles, and sang Bumpin Up And Down in my Little Space Shuttle<\/a>, Open Shut Them, and Here is the Beehive<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We watched Harold and the Purple Crayon<\/a> on DVD. The book is a classic but it’s kind of nice to watch a film version instead now and then.<\/p>\n
