We talked about the letter “A” in storytime today–and apes!<\/p>\n

I based my ape on a picture of a chimpanzee I found using Google.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I read two pretty new books, one about a monkey and one about all kinds of primates–hence, the “ape” theme instead of just “monkeys” or “gorillas.”<\/p>\n

We read\u00a0Monkey See, Look at Me!<\/a>\u00a0by Lorena Siminovich. \u00a0This is a fun book to read and invite the kids to act like various animals as you go through it.<\/p>\n

Then we read\u00a0One Gorilla<\/a>\u00a0by Anthony Browne. \u00a0The illustrations in this book are just gorgeous; I’ve been looking forward to an opportunity to share this one in a storytime.\"one<\/a><\/p>\n

We sang a silly song about a gorilla to the tune of the camping song “Boogie Woogie Washing Woman”:<\/p>\n

Boom diddy, boom diddy, boom, boom, boom
\nBoom diddy, boom diddy, boom, boom, boom
\nDown in the jungle where nobody goes
\nThere’s a great big gorilla, washing his clothes
\nWith a scrub-a-dub here and a scrub-a-dub there
\nThat’s the way he’s washing his underwear!!
\nBoom diddy, boom diddy, boom, boom, boom
\nBoom diddy, boom diddy, boom, boom, boom<\/p>\n

We sang “Two Little Apples”:<\/p>\n

\"Two<\/a>Way up high in the apple tree<\/p>\n

Two little apples smiled at me<\/p>\n

I shook that tree as hard as I could<\/p>\n

Mm Mm Mm Those apples were good!<\/p>\n

We sang “Five Little Monkeys Jumped On the Bed”:<\/p>\n

The photo came out a bit blurry, but I like to see it as “verisimilitude”–they’re jumping after all. \ud83d\ude42 #silverlining<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

And we sang “Pop Goes the Weasel”:<\/p>\n

I Googled weasels to come up with an animal that would look something like one. I can’t take credit for the monkey though. The adorable monkeys were made by Miss Jennifer.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

All around the mulberry bush
\nThe monkey chased the weasel.
\nThe monkey thought ’twas all in fun.
\nPop! goes the weasel.<\/p>\n

A penny for a spool of thread,
\nA penny for a needle.
\nThat’s the way the money goes.
\nPop! goes the weasel.<\/p>\n

I am trying to be better about placing other suggested books out for parents to check out! \u00a0Here are a few of the books I set out. \u00a0I noticed a few of them were taken so I hope you enjoyed them!<\/p>\n
