With today’s storytime, we counted cookies!<\/p>\n

Counting Cookies<\/span>

\nFirst, we counted out 10 cookies.\u00a0 Next, we noticed that each of the cookies had a different number of chocolate chips!\u00a0 Children in storytime came up and helped us place the cookies in the right spot on the baking tray depending on the number of chips we had.<\/p>\n

The cookies then went in the “oven” and when they came out, we did this rhyme together:<\/p>\n

Ten Little Cookies<\/span>
\nTen little cookies laying on a plate
\nMom eats two and then there are 8.<\/p>\n

When Dad comes home, two cookies he picks
\nLeaving on the plate only 6.<\/p>\n

Brother comes home, slamming the door.
\nHe eats two cookies, then there are 4.<\/p>\n

When sister comes home, there are still a few
\nShe eats a couple, then there are 2.<\/p>\n

Baby wakes up. His nape is done.
\nHe eats a cookie, then there is 1.<\/p>\n

The cat jumps on the table and eats the last one.
\nPoor dog!\u00a0 He\u2019s too late.\u00a0 He only gets a crumb.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n

Fingerplays<\/h2>\n

Pretend to make cookies with this rhyme.\u00a0 Doing the movements will help with little one’s small motor skills too!<\/p>\n

Making Cookies\u00a0<\/span>
\nI am making cookie dough\u00a0(point to self)<\/em>
\nRound and round the beaters go\u00a0(roll hands over hands)<\/em>
\nAdd some flour from a cup\u00a0(pour from cup)
\n<\/em>Stir and mix the batter up\u00a0(pretend to self)<\/em><\/p>\n

Roll them, cut them nice and neat\u00a0(pretend to roll out with pin, then cookie cut)<\/em>
\nPut them on a cookie sheet\u00a0(pretend to lay out on cookie sheet)<\/em>
\nBake them, count them, 1, 2, 3\u00a0(count with fingers)<\/em>
\nThen serve them to my friends for tea\u00a0(pretend to eat cookies)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\nPatty cake, patty cake, baker\u2019s man\u00a0(clap hands together)<\/em>
\nBake me a cookie as fast as you can
\nRoll it\u00a0(make a rolling motion with hands)<\/em>
\nAnd Pat it\u00a0(pat hands on your lap)<\/em>
\nAnd mark it with a \u201cC\u201d (for cookie!)\u00a0(draw a letter C in the air)<\/em>
