In celebration of Easter which was two days ago, our letter of the day was the letter E! \u00a0We had an egg theme for our storytime too. \u00a0Did you do any Easter egg hunts with your little ones this past weekend?<\/p>\n

Our Letter of the Day was E–for Easter eggs, eyes, ears, elephants and Elmo!<\/p>\n

\"E<\/a><\/p>\n

We played with Easter egg shakers filled with rice. \u00a0These aren’t even the good ones that Youth Services has here, but I wanted to show you how easy they are to make.<\/p>\n

\"Egg<\/a><\/p>\n

We read What Will Hatch?<\/a> by Jennifer Ward. \u00a0The holes incorporated into the pictures lead to the discovery of all kinds of oviparous animals!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And we also read Hurry! Hurry!<\/a> by Eve Bunting. \u00a0It has simple text, repeated words, and a happy ending about a cute baby chick.<\/p>\n

We counted 10 happy eggs with the flannelboard “Five Eggs and Five Eggs” (courtesy of Miss Jennifer’s flannelboards).<\/p>\n

Here is the rhyme:<\/p>\n

Five eggs and five eggs
\n(Add a clutch of eggs each time you say \u201cfive eggs\u201d)<\/em>
\nAnd that makes ten
\nSitting on top
\n(Add the hen)<\/em>
\nIs Mother Hen
\nCackle cackle cackle
\n(Clap hands as you say Cackle!)<\/em>
\nWhat do I see?
\nTen fluffy chickens
\n(Flip over each clutch of eggs.)<\/em>
\nYellow as can be.<\/p>\n

And we learned about colors and subtracting with a flannelboard called “Five Little Easter Eggs”!<\/p>\n

Here is the rhyme for that one:<\/p>\n

Five little Easter eggs lovely colors wore,<\/p>\n

Mommy ate the blue one, then there were four<\/p>\n

Four little Easter eggs, two and two you see<\/p>\n

Daddy ate the green one, then there were three<\/p>\n

Three little Easter eggs, and before I knew,<\/p>\n

Sister ate the yellow one, then there were two<\/p>\n

Two little Easter eggs, oh, what fun!<\/p>\n

Brother ate the purple one, then there was one<\/p>\n

One little Easter egg, see me run!<\/p>\n

I ate the last one, and then there were none.<\/p>\n

Finally, the toddler group watched a film about hunting for Easter eggs called “Eggs” from the Goodnight, Maisy DVD (not available for checkout).<\/p>\n
