At today’s Infant Storytime, we learned about the letter T, and the importance of Talking! \u00a0Talking, Singing, Playing, Reading and Writing<\/strong> are the five activities that you can do with your child every day, to get them ready for school and ready to learn how to read. \u00a0For more information about the Five Early Literacy practices, the Kent District Library<\/a> has a very informative page about current research and what you can do to support your child’s cognitive development.<\/p>\n

Finally: T is for Teacher! \u00a0You are your child’s first<\/strong> and best<\/strong> teacher, so take time every day to fill your child’s mind with new words!<\/p>\n

We read Peek-a-Moo<\/a>! by Marie Torres Cimarusti and illustrated by Stephanie Peterson. \u00a0Lift-the-flap books and peek-a-boo are great fun for babies!<\/p>\n

And we also read Can You Say It Too? \u00a0Moo! \u00a0Moo!<\/a> by Sebastien Braun. \u00a0More fun flaps to lift and cute paintings of barnyard animals!<\/p>\n

Continuing with the animal sounds theme, we learned about the words that each animal says. \u00a0Like how dogs say “Moo” and cats say “Quack”…<\/p>\n

Wait a minute… Something’s not right…<\/p>\n

Now this is much better! \u00a0We fixed the animals so that they are saying the right sounds now. \u00a0Yay!<\/p>\n

This is a great way to encourage your kids to talk. \u00a0Sometimes they really open up when you present them with something they know is wrong or silly, and then they can tell you how to do it the right way!<\/p>\n

We did a lot of the same songs we did last week but we learned some new ones too. \u00a0We bounced to “The Grand Old Duke of York” and “A Smooth Road to London Town,” and we tickled and giggled to “Round and Round the Garden,” and finally, we learned a new goodbye song.<\/p>\n

Also, there were some questions about if you get to keep your spot if you’re unable to make it once or twice. \u00a0Just to clarify, you never lose your spot! \u00a0Once you’re in, you’re in! \u00a0You’re welcome to come whenever you can. \u00a0We just ask that if for any reason you decide you can’t come anymore, let us know and we’ll let a new family in. \u00a0Otherwise, don’t worry about missing it now and then–we know it’s crazy sometimes getting places with a baby! \u00a0(And I know that for sure!)<\/p>\n
