Our theme for the third storytime of the spring session was MOVE & Play!\u00a0 There are so many ways to move & play\u00a0– you can run, jump, swim, spin around\u00a0and play peek-a-boo.\u00a0 We\u00a0did almost all of these during Infant Storytime.<\/p>\n

Children learn through play and they develop their fine and gross motor skills by being active!\u00a0 Add a bit of talking, reading and singing to the mix and you have\u00a0a winning\u00a0equation!<\/em><\/p>\n

Listed below are the books, songs, rhymes, flannel board and bounces we shared.<\/p>\n

In Leon Can Swim<\/strong><\/a> by Anne McQuinn, Leo learns how to swim.\u00a0 His Dad puts on his swim diaper and swim trunks and off they go to swim class\u00a0to do some\u00a0kicking, splishing, swishing and swoshing with the other babies!\u00a0 They even sing a\u00a0“splashy” song.\u00a0 (We sang “Twinkle Twinkle”).\u00a0After swim class it’s shower and snack time.\u00a0 Leo is tuckered out after all of that moving and he falls fast asleep.\u00a0\u00a0Simple text, a linear story\u00a0and clear bright illustrations make this a perfect book for infants.<\/p>\n

One, two three RUN!<\/strong> <\/a>is a board book by Carol Thompson.\u00a0 The title says it all!\u00a0 In the book we see toddlers doing what they do best – running up and down, spinning round and round, moving through grass, getting their\u00a0feet wet and splashing in puddles.\u00a0\u00a0This\u00a0book\u00a0is great to read aloud but it also makes for the perfect lap sit.<\/p>\n

We snuck in a third book just for fun.\u00a0 Jane Cabrera’s Peek-A-Boo Zoo!<\/strong> was a twist on the classic peek-a-boo game!\u00a0 “Peek-a-boo baby…peek-a-boo two, blue, roo…” – everything rhymed with boo.\u00a0Can you guess the final rhyming word?\u00a0 ZOO!\u00a0\u00a0A lot of fun for babies as each turn of the page offers a different animal surprise.<\/p>\n

There are many different versions of\u00a0 “Two Little Blackbirds”.\u00a0 You can replace blackbirds with blue birds or you can have them exhibit different “opposite” characteristics\u00a0(short and tall, fast and slow, quiet and loud).\u00a0 By making up your own version – you’ll have\u00a0a special rhyme just for you and\u00a0baby.<\/em><\/p>\n

P.S.\u00a0 The best thing about finger play rhymes like this one?\u00a0 No need for puppets or props –\u00a0you just need your fingers!\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n
